BEFORE BUYING A PUPPY

Berner-Garde is a FREE database for every Bernese Mountain Dog world-wide. Breeders and owners do not need to be a member of any dog club. Data submitted is verified by the BG data operators so it decreases the chances of any fake or questionable data being submitted. Anectodotal information for health information like death diagnosis, health occurences, etc. is allowed but is marked as such. If this service is available, why wouldn't a breeder use it for the sake of the health of our beloved breed? That is the first question to ask yourself if you cannot find a potential breeder listed here; or, if s/he is listed but with little to no information on his/her dogs, I would again ask "why". Bernese lovers are very fortunate to have this tool available. My link for BG

This database includes thousands of pedigrees and health information of Cardigan Welsh Corgis. I include my dogs used in beeding to ensure transparency of my Cardis. Health certifications can be uploaded to the database and anyone can search for dogs that are in the database. If searching for my dogs, it's best to use the kennel name "Car-Rae" and any dog with that kennel name will show in your results.

NATIONAL BREED CLUBS

American Kennel Club (AKC) national breed clubs are the backbone of any breed. Their websites hold a variety of resources for people searching for puppies, historical information, breed standards, regional club listings, rescue, etc. I encourage you to view the website of the breed  you are researching early on in your seach for a responsible breeder. (**being a member of a national AKC club does  not necessarily make you a responsible breeder. It's important to talk to breeders, ask questions about themselves and their dogs, and feel comfortable being able to work with a breeder. There are no guarantees that you won't face obstacles raising a puppy. You want to be able to turn to that breeder to ask questions, seek advice, etc. A breeder (in my opinion) should be available to you for the life of your new puppy not just to sell you a puppy. S/he should also be willing to take your puppy back at any time if you find yourself needing to rehome your puppy due to unforeseen circumstances.
